How does the random group generator decide who goes where?
Student names are shuffled in your browser and then dealt evenly across the number of groups you choose, so every group ends up as close in size as possible.
Can I create pairs instead of larger groups?
Yes. Choose the Pairs grouping method and the tool will create partner groups automatically, combining any single leftover student into one slightly larger group of three.
What's the difference between random groups and balanced groups?
Random groups lets you set the exact number of groups you want. Balanced groups lets you set the group size instead (for example, 4 students per group), and the tool works out how many groups are needed.
Can I add a large class list at once?
Yes. Use the "Paste a full class list instead" option to add many student names at once, one per line or separated by commas.
Will the tool handle duplicate names?
Yes. Duplicate names are kept as separate students in the list (useful for classes with repeated first names) so no one is accidentally removed.
Can I get new groups without re-entering my student list?
Yes. Use Randomize Groups to reshuffle the same student list into a brand new set of groups using your current settings.
Can I print or save the groups as a PDF?
